What's new in the City of Novato?

Novato's Climate Action Plan.  Novato has had a plan for several years, but it has languished owing to fiscal effects of recession on local governments.  On March 20 Sustainable Marin sent a letter requesting that the City of Novato and other Marin cities do more to keep citizens informed about plan implementation and strengthen cooperation through the Marin Climate and Energy Partnership to move climate protection ahead once more.

Integrated Pest Management (IPM).  Sustainable Novato has offered to work with Novato City Council members on an ordinance that would clarify and strengthen city commitment to reducing use of harmful toxic pesticides on streets, parks and public places, using successful models from other municipalities.

New City Clean Power Option.  It's time that Novato reconsider purchasing electricity for city facilities from Marin Energy Authority (MEA).  The City chose last year to stick with PG&E but said it would reconsider after 2013 rates were set. MEA's rates are now below PG&E rates for commercial customers, so it no longer makes sense to pay more for PG&E's dirtier power.  Let the Council know: novatocouncil@cityofnovato.org.
